ronn branton This is very nice work; a good group sound and compelling technique & ideas. The hint of Sibelius in Seven Hills is great. There is much food for thought here!

Martin Powell Came here via Drifter (ar$e about face as ever??). Quite how these guys weren't 'recollected' sooner is a mystery after Warner Francaise pulled, but "Bloody Good Job Edition" as ever Favorite track: Cyan.

Dillon Ethier Acoustic jazz trio from Finland, featuring guest electric guitar on a couple tracks. While I think of how to describe them, for now let's just say they're quite good. Favorite track: Prologue.

ABOUT:
Seven Hills is the new trio album from Finnish born Alexi Tuomarila, one of the most important young pianists & composers on the European Jazz scene.

Following numerous first prize awards at various international jazz competitions throughout 2003 he signed to Warner Jazz France, releasing two albums that brought worldwide attention and critical acclaim from the international press, fans and musicians .Fellow pianist Brad Mehldau, says, "I'm definitely excited about the future of this piano player". He shared the stage with some of the biggest names in Jazz and was developing at speed when without warning Warner Jazz stopped their jazz and classical output leaving Tuomarila, almost overnight, without management or career direction. Feeling disparaged and dismayed, what followed was a period of self-discovery, growth in his confidence and eventually a realisation that playing this music was his ultimate goal.

Recorded by Andre Fernandes at Timbuktu Studios, Lisbon, Portugal on the 26th – 28th of September 2011.

Mixed & mastered by August Wanngren at We Know Music Studio, Copenhagen in October 2012.
